We get asked on a regular basis for cleaning instructions and so I thought I would put our care information on here in the hope that it will be of use to anyone who has a natural stone or quartz surface. The upkeep is simple and is as follows.
Granite, Marble and Quartz.
Both granite and marble are porous and should be sealed before installation as this will give the necessary protection for use in the kitchen or bathroom. Quartz, however is a more stain resistant material and does not require sealing. The following are the basic instructions for keeping your surfaces looking their best:
1. Always mop up spills immediately, this will avoid any difficult to remove stains appearing. Acidic substances like wine, coffee, fruit juices, tomato sauce and sodas can etch the surface and cooking oils may soak into the surface if left for a prolonged length of time.
2. You can clean the surface using a sponge with hot soapy water or a soft cloth. Soapy residue may, over time, leave a residue on the surface of the material , dulling the polish, so rinsing off the soap is recommended. A clear coloured household antibacterial surface spray may also be used and wiped dry after after spraying. Always try on a small area first. To bring the shine up we advise using the spray that is provided when we install. Replacement spray is available through our showroom in Wareham.
3. The use of trivets or coasters is recommended for placing hot pans on the counter tops. This will prevent possible damage to the polished surface. The use of trivets is advised for all types of counter top and not just those made of natural materials.
4. Always use a chopping board to prepare food on and a pastry board for rolling pastry. This will prolong the life of your counter tops.
I hope that these simple instruction are of use and remember that we are always available to answer any questions that you may have.
