What is the difference between traditional, low silica and silica free Quartz?

There are various different types of Quartz available. Traditional Quartz is made from crushed natural Quartz, resins and pigments. It contains high silica content that when manufactured can cause harm to health if the fabricators don’t have special measures and machinery in place to prevent this. This is just within the manufacture process, the material is perfectly safe once installed in the home.

Low Silica Quartz replaces a high portion of natural Quartz with recycled glass and alternative minerals. This reduces the silica content in Quartz and makes it safer for fabricators to manufacture.

Silica free Quartz contains amorphous silica, recycled glass and alternative minerals. Using amorphous silica rather than crystalline silica removes the rick of silicosis and ensures a safe material to manufacture.

At Eaton Stonemasons we have water fed machinery, air fed respiration masks, and multiple dust extraction systems to ensure the safety of our team working with these materials. Find out more!
