An upstand is a strip of worktop which runs along the wall to prevent from splashes. They sit on the worksurface so look like an extension of your worktop. Upstands are typically 100mm high however this is up to personal preference as they can be smaller or bigger. They also create a seal between the worktop and the wall to ensure no liquids can seep behind the cabinets over time.
