What is the difference between an upstand and a splashback?

A upstand is a smaller piece of worktop that runs round the edge of the wall sat on the worktops, usually around 100mm high. A splashback is effectively a much bigger upstand that runs around the wall and is typically between 300mm-700mm high. These can be full length splashbacks or simply a smaller square splashback which sits behind the hob or sink. The splashbacks are there to stop water and food splashes from getting on the walls while cooking.
